Contribution Of Females To The IT Industry

Female contribution to the IT industry
Well the world is developing at a very faster rate, if we go back and see the social condition back there females were considered to be working at homes, raising children, cooking, cleaning etc. Even they were not allowed to vote. But the things changed they got all rights which a male has and now you can see females and males together at proper equal level. Now teachers, doctors, manager, police officers, CEO a place where males were been considered appropriate are now been managed by females more efficiently. This change is like 30 or 40 years old started.

But let’s come to the IT world. This virtual world is awesome build by the best people in the world. There is no discrimination. There are no fights, no violence. (however with the government I have considered it as exception)
Not like the real world. And that’s one of the reason I like it so much. Females have contributed a lot to IT world.
This fact came in my mind & I started researching about this and  I just wanted to post about it. Let’s check out how. The youngest industry in the world is the IT industry which began when

Charles Babbage made his machine. His machine was incomplete i.e. his computer seems to be incomplete. And that completeness was brought by a female with the help of a new branch in IT called as programming
Ada Lovelace- Also famously known as the first programmer of the world. I want to make clear that she was the first programmer not the first female programmer the FIRST PROGRAMMER in the world.

All the females who are reading this would be so proud of being a female.

To be exact as per Wikipedia (source) -
" Her notes on the engine include what is recognized as the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine; because of this, she is sometimes described as the world's first computer programmer "
Well technically as per the job of computer programmer in today's world she cannot be considered as programmer. But giving a title to someone and later on discussing on it whether it was proper or not . I think it is a foolish thing. Well I will consider her as truly the first programmer of the world.

The computer language created by the United States Department of Defense, was named after Ada as per the name of Ada Lovelace.

"Ada Lovelace Day" is an annual event celebrated in mid-October whose goal is to "raise the profile of women in science, technology, engineering and maths".
Ada Lovelace Day 2013 will be held on Tuesday 15 October.(source : findingada.com)

IT industry does not discriminate. Whether you are young, old, beautiful, not so beautiful(as per real world), fat, thin etc.. It all works with your
knowledge, imagination and the will to keep on doing things you want to do. And I really think females have a good knowledge they have a great imagination,
and the way they take things is also very amazing they have more patience as compared to males. So I think their will power is pretty good as compared.

Females were been there from the start of IT industry. And still their contribution is equal to men as compared. They manage everything like multitasking.
I have seen female in military and have seen females in the start of silicon valley, I have seen females in the Apple incorporation , and later saw
females in neXT computer building team(personal computer period). Later in animation work. Later on the web site building. Later as manager in IT companies.
And now as the CEO of IT company. Woow the development is awesome and with time the multitasking has also grown up.

Marissa Mayer - Yahoo's current CEO
Of Course when I refer to female CEO in your mind there might be one name.

Marissa Mayer the Chief Executive Officer of one of the famous IT Company Yahoo and the president of the same.
Mayer joined Google in 1999 as employee number 20 and was the company's first female engineer.
During her 13 years with the company, she was an engineer, designer, product manager and executive. Mayer held key roles in Google Search, Google Images, Google News, Google Maps, Google Books, Google Product Search, Google Toolbar, iGoogle and Gmail. She also oversaw the layout of Google's well-known, unadorned search homepage. Yes the simple Google homepage which we see is due to marissa mayer efforts and thinking. And she took a lots of efforts to keep it that simple irrespective of Google introducing new things.
In her final years with Google, she was Vice President of Local, Maps, and Location Services and, before that, vice president of search products and user experience.
With Yahoo ceo and president she is also the Board of Director of it.
She is also the  boards of directors of Walmart, Jawbone. Mayer also sits on several non-profit boards such as Cooper–Hewitt, National Design Museum, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Mayer was named to Fortune magazine's annual list of America's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 with ranks at 50, 44, 42, 38 and 14 respectively. In 2008, at age 33, she was the youngest woman ever listed. She named one of Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year in 2009.
Also Forbes Magazine's List of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2012 and 2013 with ranks at 20 and 32 respectively.
She was named to Time 100 in 2013. Also in 2013, Mayer became the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to have a spread in the September issue in Vogue Magazine. That same year, Mayer became the first woman listed as number one on Fortune magazine's annual list of the top 40 business stars under 40 years old.
Even it is said that the shares of yahoo doubled within 14 months after Marissa joined yahoo

With that she was working for Yahoo from home during her pregnancy. Wooooo so much in so less time. I think she is of age 38. She is a woman who has contributed to the Modern IT world. I think you should watch her video during her time in Google. And the way she answered in the interview taken. That was awesome I truly respect her and most of it I like the Idea of her simplicity in Google homepage.

There is no such reasons why females should not be allowed or appointed to work. If we consider one aspect of females then thats the reasons which can be like a limitation. The pregnancy process of women. In which she need rest for like 6 to 7 months maximum. Even when marissa mayer was pregnant she was
given like 3 months for rest even in which she did not rest she worked from home. As been CEO is not so easy job. Well the dedication of females is also more as compared.

Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr born 9 Nov 1914 was a beautiful actress and also contributed to IT. Most of the things were developed during the war time as a need. Hedy lamarr came to know about the torpedo can be used a major weapon to sink a ship and also know that the direction of it can be manipulated with the technology which was been used. So she with George Antheil worked on something called as frequency hopping and spread spectrum.
Now let me give a brief meaning of the two terms Spread Spectrum is like taking a signal which is kind of low and putting it or making it spread or spreading it and converting it into a big, high, strong amount of signal which can be used for good signal quality, preventing from interference of noise, jamming and other unwanted things.
Frequency hopping (which I didn't understood completely)  - its a technique in which frequency are transmitted through various sources. Rapidly without any medium.
If anyone can explain this easily please comment here below. Lets get to the topic.

Due to this technology was not given more value during the war but later it was open for common people and the citizen can use it (as u may be knowing that the military uses first and when the technology gets old they allow it for normal citizen).  So the licence was given and using this technology Bluetooth, CDMA, GPS etc was been created. So the discovery and research was very useful and what ever wireless communication which we are using are based on that technology. Amazing isn't it. Well searching about her I came to know about her film carrier and relationships and all she did which I think is irrelevant and her personal life. But still we should respect her for the Contribution toward IT.

Top Secret Rosies
Top secret rosies was the group of female mathematicians who worked on the ENIAC. They worked in World war 2. This was a secret group which worked for ballistics calculations and code-breaking. So the females were much ahead also they were been paid $1,260 a year (at that time). I think it was the first female group of programmers . There a less info about top secret rosies. (jf anyone can contribute please send the info to me)

Grace Hopper

Grace hopper again who worked during the world war 2. She worked as the first computer programmer on Harvard Mark 1 computer. She is the one who made the first compiler of the world. Ok compiler is the program which can create another program. And programmer use this compiler. With that she gave the concept of compiler and the idea of machine independent programming languages. And that led to the development of cobol and later the development compiler started and c,c++ etc came in and today we are on JAVA. So her contribution is consider to be a important thing. She is  also considered for using the term debugging in computers . She always wore US navy uniform during her sessions . Other than people thank her for creating the compiler but she felt important that the training other young people was as important as building the compiler. She was a great mathematician even. And have won a lots of award for her work.

Eesha Khare
Eesha khare is been in media these days about her invention about 20 second charger. Intel has awarded her for her work and Google also see to hire her.Still the time of 20 or 30 second is at discussion which I am not sure whether its 20 or 30 whatever it is less than 60 second which is more important. There is something as super capacitor and she increased in that and showed that the charging can be done in short time and can be used as normal charger she has demonstrated on LED device. It is flexible and can be attached to mobile device and can be used as per information which I found.
Some people disagree with the invention that just by increasing the super capacitor she made it which was not a new thing. Its not of that quality that normal charger gives. Well they as well as me would agree that the 18 year girl did this So if she has full knowledge and worked with some expert people the outcome would be great and would be truly revolutionary. So this can be a change which would be done and the future generation would never know about the problem of low battery.

Still as per statistics the number of females working in the IT are less and are expected to be more in the near future.
Well I am also a IT student and in my class there are girls as much as boys. Half boys half girls which is a good sign of female getting more involved in IT industry.
In the coming years the contribution of females will be more as compared to males. And been a boy I feel I should study hard to be in competition. :)

Well thats all for this post. I hope you understand why females should be appointed, why they should be more respected and how they are contributing toward a more advance and develop society and the World.
TC.
